Taonga Tauranga – Breakfast Speaker series #1

Kicking off the series will be innovator, entrepreneur and IT animator Ian Taylor, who will discuss how technology has the potential to make the new museum an economic and social game changer.

Former Kal-Q-Lated Risk lead singer and presenter of Spot On a children’s television series, Ian Taylor continued to take calculated risks when in 1990 he founded an internationally acclaimed computer animation company.

Using the technology which Animation Research has developed allows the company to make animated models of major construction projects, like the proposed Dunedin Museum and surrounding area, and applications which can be used in exhibits by recreating reality (virtual reality) in museum displays and promotions.

Breakfast meeting organisers

The breakfast meeting series is being organised by Taonga Tauranga, a group of Tauranga professionals with an interest in the museum development who want to encourage wide public discussion about the proposed museum and its role as an economic and social game changer.

Convener Peter McKinlay

Convener of Taonga Tauranga, Peter McKinlay of McKinlay Douglas, said the group is committed to promoting and contributing to public debate on how the establishment of the museum can contribute to the broader social, cultural and economic development of Tauranga Moana. “We think technology will play a major part in realising the vision of Tauranga residents for a 21st century museum.” See more at our newly established Facebook page Taonga Tauranga.
